BMW is celebrating 30 years since it first introduced the 8 Series in Australia with a special Heritage Edition.
Just nine Heritage Edition variants of the BMW 840i will come here, across coupe, Gran Coupe and convertible body styles.
They’ll arrive in the fourth quarter of 2021.
The Gran Coupe Heritage Edition will be priced at $189,900 before on-road costs, with the two-door coupe ringing up at $192,900 before on-roads and the convertible at $207,900 before on-roads.
They’ll be finished in one of three BMW Individual colour combinations, each with a full-leather interior.
These comprise a Frozen Marina Bay Blue exterior with a Merino Black interior, a Frozen Black exterior with a Merino Ivory White interior, and a Frozen Dark Silver exterior with a Merino Tartufo and black interior.
The Heritage Edition is shod with Jet Black 20-inch M light-alloy wheels, with M Sport brake callipers finished in red and not the blue seen in these press images.
As on the 840i, standard equipment includes an M Sport differential, adaptive M suspension, and M Sport brakes.
The turbocharged 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder produces 250kW of power and 500Nm of torque, and is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive.
Inside, there’s a badge on the centre console reading ‘Edition Heritage – 1/9”.
There’s also BMW’s crystal-like CraftedClarity Glass for the transmission shifter, iDrive controller and start/stop button, plus piano black trim and an Alcantara Anthracite headliner in coupe models.
This is in addition to equipment found on the regular 840i, which includes:
BMW resurrected the 8 Series nameplate in 2018, replacing the 6 Series coupe, Gran Coupe and convertible family.
That mirrored the original 8 Series’ introduction in 1990, where it served as a replacement of sorts for the first-generation 6 Series.
Production of the original 8 Series ended in 1999. Though M8 and convertible variants were planned, these never eventuated. The current 8 Series, however, offers these.
All prices exclude on-road costs.
