The 2022 Audi Q6 E-Tron has been spied once again, this time at Volkswagen Group’s Nürburgring testing centre.
Built on the new Premium Platform Electric (PPE) that’s been jointly developed by Audi and Porsche, the Q6 E-Tron will share its platform with the next-generation Porsche Macan.
Both the new Macan and Q6 E-Tron are set to debut in 2022 and will be the first production vehicles to use this platform.
The Q6 E-Tron will sit above the Q4 E-Tron that was revealed earlier in 2021.
The Q4 E-Tron utilises the MEB architecture used by the Volkswagen ID.4 among other mainstream all-electric models.
PPE-based vehicles will reportedly offer electric range of upwards of 480km, with a standard single electric motor on the rear axle and an optional secondary electric motor on the front axle for all-wheel drive.
Electric motor specifications and battery pack sizes for the Q6 E-Tron and next-generation Macan are yet to be confirmed.
The platform will also offer an 800V electrical system, just like the J1 platform used in the Porsche Taycan and Audi e-tron GT, and will have DC fast-charging speeds of up to 350kW.
In the spy images, the Q6 E-Tron prototype looks virtually identical to the prototype that was spied earlier in 2021.
The prototype is still covered in the same camouflage as previously seen and still has fake, circular prototype tail lights.
This prototype, however, appears to have production headlights with only a small amount of camouflage covering them.
Typical of an electric vehicle (EV), there’s no formal grille and instead there’s a lower air intake cutout at the bottom of the front bumper.
There are reportedly two charging ports on the rear quarter panel sections of the Q6 E-Tron, with one seen on the left side and another possibly on the right side under the camouflage.
The Q6 E-Tron will roll off the production line at the Audi Ingolstadt production plant which is currently undergoing renovations to accommodate all-electric manufacturing processes.
By 2025, Audi expects to offer over 20 all-electric models.
Audi has also committed to ceasing development of new ICE models by 2026 when the second-generation Q8 launches.
This Q8 will reportedly be offered with both ICE and EV powertrains.
After its production run ends around 2032, Audi will have only an electric-only model range, though it’s left the door open for ICE vehicles to continue to be sold in China beyond that date.
