The next piece in Audi’s electric puzzle has been revealed.
Spy photographs have revealed the Audi Q5 E-Tron, which could possibly be called Q6 E-Tron. It’s expected to be the first Audi to use a new platform co-developed with Porsche.
Premium Platform Electric (PPE) will also be used to underpin the next-generation, all-electric Porsche Macan, and can support other medium and large sedans, wagons and SUVs.
Both models are expected to launch in 2022.
PPE’s use in the Q5 E-Tron distinguishes the upcoming Audi from other electric SUVs in the range.
Audi’s electric SUV range will include the upcoming Q4 E-Tron which uses Volkswagen’s MEB architecture and Audi’s first electric SUV, the E-Tron, which uses a modified version of the Q7’s MLB evo platform.
Like those two models, it’s also expected to spawn a sleeker Sportback variant.
We don’t yet know any powertrain details for this new model, though it appears likely it’ll feature the same 800V electrical system as the recently revealed E-Tron GT and its Porsche Taycan cousin.
While this prototype isn’t wearing production tail lights, the headlights look to be showroom-spec.
Through the camouflage we can see a body that doesn’t look dramatically different from that of the E-Tron SUV, with traditional Audi SUV styling employed.
Charging ports are located on the rear fenders.
