It’s one of the worst kept secrets in motoring, but images of the next-generation 2021 Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series have leaked, revealing some of the tech that’ll feature when the dated current model is replaced.
Images exclusively obtained by AutoSpot show a brand new interior for the next-generation Toyota LandCruiser, along with a confirmation of a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine, which is due to replace the current V8 petrol and diesel offering.
As previously revealed, the wheelbase of the 300 Series LandCruiser is expected to grow in size. It’s set to measure 4980mm long and 1980mm wide, with a 2900mm wheelbase.
In contrast, the current Toyota LandCruiser 200 Series is 4990mm long and 1980mm wide, and has a 50mm shorter wheelbase.
Inside the cabin, the 300 Series LandCruiser will pick up finger scanning technology to access driver profiles, a 12.3-inch infotainment system atop the dashboard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a suite of active safety features.
Other notable features include heated and cooled seats, wireless phone charging, a heated steering wheel, a likely switch to electrically assisted steering (instead of the current hydraulic system), and a new colour LCD display ahead of the driver with critical trip computer details.
Toyota will build the 300 Series LandCruiser on the TNGA-F body-on-frame platform that is expected to also be available with a smaller four-cylinder diesel engine and a hybridised version of the 3.5-litre turbocharged V6.
While the engine fitted to the non-hybrid 300 Series LandCruiser is expected to be mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, the hybrid turbocharged V6 petrol variant is likely to be mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission.
If the Lexus LS500 is anything to go by, the 3.5-litre twin-turbocharged V6 petrol engine could produce anywhere up to 310kW of power and 600Nm of torque, pushing the 300 Series LandCruiser well ahead of the current car.
Judging by some of the visible buttons, the 300 Series LandCruiser is expected to retain the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS) used on both the 200 Series LandCruiser and Toyota LandCruiser Prado Kakadu, in addition to Crawl Control, a centre differential lock, Turn Assist, and adjustable drive modes.
On the outside, a tri-LED setup is likely to offer some form of matrix LED functionality with automatic high beam activation and shadowing.
Toyota Australia remains tight lipped on release timing for Landcruiser. But, a Japanese launch is expected to happen mid-2021, with an Australian launch shortly after.
LandCruiser sales broke a new record last month with just under 1500 sold in Australia.
