The gap between the base Peugeot 2008 Allure and the top-spec GT Sport has now been filled.
The new Peugeot 2008 GT is priced at $38,990 before on-road costs, slotting neatly between the Allure ($34,990 before on-roads) and GT Sport ($43,990 list).
It’s on sale now.
It uses the Allure’s tune of the turbocharged 1.2-litre three-cylinder engine, producing 96kW of power and 230Nm of torque.
It’s mated to a six-speed torque-converter automatic transmission and has a claimed 0-100km/h time of 9.3 seconds.
The GT Sport upgrades to an eight-speed auto, outputs of 114kW and 240Nm, and consequently a quicker 0-100km/h time of 8.7 seconds.
The GT does, however, use the larger 10.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system of the GT Sport with satellite navigation.
Other features shared with its pricier sibling include eight-colour ambient lighting, keyless entry, front and rear parking sensors, blind-spot monitoring, and a more sophisticated autonomous emergency braking system with low-light pedestrian and cyclist detection.
As on the Allure, standard kit includes the trick 3D i-Cockpit digital instrument cluster, wired Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and traffic sign recognition.
It misses out on the GT Sport’s lane-positioning assist, adaptive cruise control with stop/go, paddle shifters and semi-autonomous parking assist.
The lime-green stitching details of the GT Sport are carried over but the seats are upholstered in what Peugeot calls ‘CAPY fabric with leather effect’.
The GT Sport’s Nappa leather upholstery is optional, bundled into a $2690 option package with heated front seats and a power driver’s seat with massaging.
A panoramic sunroof is a $1990 option, as on the GT Sport.
Outside, it employs the same full-LED headlights as the GT Sport with the ‘3-Claw’ lighting signature and automatic high-beam, as well as an identical dark chrome, chequered slat grille with gloss black edge trim, and a Diamond Black roof.
It’s distinguished externally from the GT Sport by its smaller 17-inch ‘Salamanca’ alloy wheels, compared to the 18-inch wheels of the flagship.

The 2008 is Peugeot’s second best-selling model so far in 2021 behind the 3008, though its 228 sales to the end of May put it below the likes of the Mazda MX-30 (304) and Jeep Compass (422).
