The priciest Ford Ranger other than the Raptor, is returning for 2021.

The Ford Ranger Wildtrak X has picked up some exterior and interior styling tweaks to distinguish it from the regular Wildtrak and the outgoing 2020 Wildtrak X.

Due in dealers next February, it’s priced at $66,490 before on-road costs for the 3.2-litre and $67,990 before on-roads for the 2.0-litre.

The most visible change from this year’s model is the addition of ‘nostrils’ in the grille, finished in an orange colour Ford calls Saber.

Similarly coloured accents also appear on the black sail plane.

While last year’s model featured various grey exterior accents, these have been replaced with black ones for 2021.

Black-finished exterior items include the nudge bar, wheel arch flares, side steps, roof rails, lower front bumper insert, rear bumper, handles, mirror caps and headlight and fog light bezels.

Inside, there’s Wildtrak orange stitching details on the steering wheel, shifter and handbrake, while the black leather upholstery is accented with exclusive Saber detailing.

The Wildtrak X also adds the following equipment over the Wildtrak:

    • Black nudge bar
    • Lumen 20.5-inch slimline LED light bar
    • 18-inch black alloy wheels with 35mm offset
    • Wheel arch flares
    • Illuminated scuff plates for front doors

That’s in addition to standard Wildtrak features like an 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay and satellite navigation.

The Wildtrak X also retains the Wildtrak’s power roller shutter, adaptive cruise control, tyre-pressure monitoring, electronic rear differential lock, semi-autonomous parking assist and FordPass Connect.

Those orange grille accents remain regardless of which colour you choose from, with the palette including Arctic White, Aluminium Silver, Meteor Grey, Shadow Black and Saber.

Once again, it’s available only as a 4×4 Double Cab, though Ford offers it with both the 3.2-litre turbo-diesel five-cylinder and 2.0-litre twin-turbo diesel four-cylinder engines.

The 3.2-litre produces 147kW of power and 470Nm of torque and is mated to a six-speed automatic transmission, with a combined fuel economy of 8.9L/100km.

The 2.0-litre produces 157kW of power and 500Nm of torque and is mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, which helps it achieve a superior fuel efficiency figure of 7.4L/100km.

Both models have a braked towing capacity of 3500kg, though payload differs between the two: 943kg in the four-cylinder and 913kg in the five-cylinder.

As with the rest of the Ranger range, the Wildtrak X is covered by a five-year, unlimited-kilometre warranty.

Servicing is required every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first, with the first four services capped at $299.

The 2021 Wildtrak X is just the latest Ranger reveal from Ford as the Blue Oval bolsters its hot-selling ute line-up with new variants.

It introduced the XLT-based FX4 Max (above left) and XLT Fully Loaded this year, plus a XLT Double Cab Chassis variant and the XL Tradie 4×4.
