Australia’s favourite 4×4 ute is about to offer customers even more choice.
Ford Australia has announced additional versions of the Ranger 4×4 ute, including the new XL Special Edition and the return of the XLT Fully Loaded. First units will start arriving over the next month.
The new variants are joined by new options as well, geared towards heavy-duty capability and added personalisation. Standard FordPass Connect with remote vehicle functions further bolsters the Ranger’s appeal.
“We’re working hard to ensure that tradies and their teams across the country, and businesses pushing to get back on their feet, have the right equipment and support to get on with what matters to them most,” said Andrew Birkic, newly-appointed President and CEO for Ford Australia and New Zealand.
Based on the XL Double Cab Chassis 3.2-litre variant, the XL Special Edition features a range of accessories to “enhance its usefulness and dependability”.
Priced from $49,990 drive-away, the XL Special Edition comes standard with three core accessories – a factory-fitted Ford Genuine steel bull bar, an LED light bar and a Ford Genuine fixed-head snorkel.
In addition to the LED light bar, the Ranger XL 4×4 Special Edition’s bull bar offers integrated mount points for lamps and UHF antennas, and has been engineered to be compatible with the Ranger’s standard autonomous emergency braking system with pedestrian detection.
The XL 4×4 Special Edition represents compelling value over the model on which it’s based, which is priced from $49,790 before on-road costs.
Beyond the XL Special Edition, the standard Ranger XL is now available with new options for enhanced capability.
First up is a new Continental All-Terrain tyre option ($500) better suited to off-road driving. With this specified, the Ranger XL gets larger 17 x 7.5-inch steel wheels (16-inch wheels are standard).
The tyres are factory fitted, and Ford says they’ve been tested against the company’s ‘Trustmark’ handling requirements.
Also new for the 2020 Ranger XL is the availability of the Heavy-Duty Pack ($1600-2000 depending on variant).
For your spend, the pack includes heavy-duty suspension for improved road manners when carrying heavy loads, 17 x 7.5-inch black steel wheels wrapped in Continental all-terrain tyres, solid wheel nuts, black side steps (not for Single Cab Chassis), and a reversing camera for Cab Chassis models.
The XL, XLS and XLT Double Cab are also now available with a Tough Bed Spray-in Bedliner, listed as a $300 option for 2020.
Ford says the factory-fitted liner offers “greater durability, strength and usability when compared to a ‘drop in’ or aftermarket bed liner”.
Buyers of the Ranger XLS now have the choice of 17-inch black alloys ($750) for the first time.
The optional rims are larger than the standard 16-inch alloys for XLS models, making for a more upmarket look.
Carrying over for 2020 is the availability of the XLS Premium Pack ($1500), which adds a chrome grille and door handles, in-built satellite navigation, DAB+ radio, dual-zone climate control, keyless entry with push-button start, and dual 4.2-inch instrument cluster displays. Combined with the new wheel option, you can specify your XLS to almost the same level as the XLT.
Last year’s popular XLT Fully Loaded edition is back for 2020, arriving in September.
Based on the XLT 4×4 Double Cab, the Fully Loaded is just that, packaging all the XLT’s available options into one high-spec package.
Key additions include 18-inch black alloy wheels, adaptive cruise control, a semi-automatic parallel parking system, and leather-accented seat trim.
Ford is offering the XLT Fully Loaded with drive-away pricing $1500 over the equivalent XLT Double Cab – which the company says is a 50 per cent saving over buying the model’s extra features separately.
The leather trim alone usually costs $1500, while the Tech Pack (which adds the adaptive cruise and park assist systems) is an $800 option. Opting for the alloys on their own is $750, too.
Buyers can specify the XLT Fully Loaded with both 3.2-litre and 2.0-litre Bi-Turbo powertrains – priced from $59,440 and $60,940 before on-road costs respectively before adding the Fully Loaded pack.
