2020 Ford Mustang price and specs

The 2020 Ford Mustang is available with three engines and two body styles, with prices ranging from $50,990 before on-road costs for the High Performance coupe to $99,980 before on-road costs for the R-Spec coupe.

This generation of Mustang – introduced in 2015 – is the first to be built in right-hand drive instead of converted locally.

It was a wise move, as the Mustang quickly snatched the title of Australia’s best-selling sports car and has yet to relinquish it.

Engines

The 2020 Ford Mustang High Performance uses a turbocharged 2.3-litre four-cylinder engine producing 236kW and 448Nm, mated to either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2020 Ford Mustang GT uses a naturally-aspirated 5.0-litre V8 engine producing 339kW and 556Nm. It’s also mated to either a six-speed manual or 10-speed automatic transmission.

The 2020 Ford Mustang R-Spec, developed with Herrod Performance, uses a supercharged 5.0-litre V8. It produces 522kW, though no official torque figure has been released. It’s offered exclusively with a six-speed manual transmission.

Fuel Economy

The 2020 Ford Mustang High Performance consumes 8.8L/100km on the combined cycle with the manual transmission and 9.6L/100km with the automatic transmission.

The 2020 Ford Mustang GT consumes 13L/100km on the combined cycle with the manual transmission and 12.7L/100km with the automatic.

The 2020 Ford Mustang R-Spec consumes 14L/100km on the combined cycle.

The four-cylinder Mustang High Performance runs on 91RON regular unleaded fuel, while all V8 Mustangs require 98RON premium unleaded fuel.

Dimensions

The 2020 Ford Mustang measures 4789mm long, 1387mm tall (1357mm in the R-Spec), and 1916mm wide.

Safety

When the Ford Mustang was tested by ANCAP in 2017, it received a rating of three stars.

That rating was based on an adult occupant protection score of 72 per cent, child occupant protection of 32 per cent, pedestrian protection of 78 per cent and safety assist of 61 per cent.

All 2020 Ford Mustang models come standard with autonomous emergency braking and forward-collision warning, as well as lane-departure warning, lane-keeping assist, anti-lock brakes, and front, front-side, curtain and driver’s knee airbags.

Servicing

All 2020 Ford Mustang models require servicing every 12 months or 15,000km, whichever comes first.
