BMW Australia has recalled its large SUV trio to fix a problem with the front axle.
The 2020 X5, X6, and X7 have been recalled to because a “fault in the welding process” means “a weld seam on the front axle was not welded properly”.

BMW Group Australia would like to clarify its position on two recent BMW recalls posted on the ACCC website and subsequently reported in the media. It can confirm that all vehicles affected by recalls have been repaired and returned to customers.
This includes the 14 X5, X6 and X7 vehicles affected by the recall relating to a welding issue on the front axle, and the 61 X5, 7 Series, 3 Series, 5 Series and MINI Countryman vehicles affected by the recall relating to impurities discovered in battery cells.
As the safety of our customers and all other members of the public is of the utmost importance, BMW Group Australia proactively contacted customers prior to consultation with the ACCC to action the recall process. It also provided loan vehicles for customers while affected vehicles were repaired.
“The incorrect welding can lead to a complete separation of the right hand side tension strut, resulting in loss of steering control,” BMW Australia said in its recall notice.
“Sudden loss of steering control increases the risk of accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users.”
- A total of 14 vehicles are included in the recall.
- Affected vehicles were sold between 1 May 2020 and 31 October 2020.

BMW Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to organise a free fix with their nearest dealership to organise a free fix.
