Mercedes-Benz Australia has extended a recall on its X-Class ute.

The 2018-20 X-Class has been recalled to correct an incorrect maximum roof loading figure in the owner’s manual.

Mercedes says the roof loading listed is only applicable when the car is stationary, and doesn’t apply to when the vehicle is moving.

If the roof is overloaded, especially if a canopy is installed, there’s a chance the support for the roof load will break on the move.

That could make a load shift or fall off. There’s also a chance the car’s ESP won’t operate correctly in an emergency manoeuvre when there’s too much load on the roof.

    • A total of 6117 cars are included in the recall
    • A VIN list of the affected vehicles is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Mercedes-Benz will contact owners of the X-Class to organise an update for the digital owner’s manual, and to replace the physical manual.

Owners who have previously had the roof load-related recall carried out on their X-Class will need to have their cars taken back to the dealer once again, so another software update can be carried out and their physical manual can once again be updated.
