Alpine
Alpine is a French automotive manufacturer that specialises in sports cars and racing vehicles. The company was founded in 1955 by Jean Rédélé, who named it after the Alpine region in which he grew up. Alpine gained recognition in the 1960s and 1970s for its success in rally racing, particularly with the Alpine A110.
The A110 was a lightweight, rear-engined sports car that was designed for rally racing. It was powered by a range of engines, including four-cylinder and V6 units, and was built on a steel backbone chassis with a fibreglass body. The A110 won numerous rally races, including the Monte Carlo Rally, and cemented Alpine's reputation as a leading manufacturer of performance cars.
In the 1980s, Alpine was acquired by Renault and the brand was used to develop performance versions of Renault's existing models. However, Alpine ceased production in the 1990s, and the brand remained dormant until 2017 when Renault announced its revival.
The new Alpine A110 is a two-seat sports car that was designed to evoke the spirit of the original A110. It features a lightweight aluminum chassis and body and is powered by a turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. It was on sale in Australia until the brand had to pull the vehicle due to a compliance issue with side airbags.
