Strong demand in regional Australia is driving early sales of Toyota's hybrid Tundra pickup, which officially went on sale today.

When it comes to utes, few are as iconic as the Toyota HiLux. Now a household name, the HiLux has been the dominant Japanese brand's bestseller for more than a decade and was Australia's top-selling new vehicle for seven consecutive years until 2023, when it was eclipsed for the first time by the Ford Ranger. The HiLux (and the LandCruiser 70 Series pickup) will be joined by the full-size, US-built Tundra 4x4 dual-cab in 2025, powered by a 3.5-litre petrol-electric V6, priced around $145K and - like its direct competitors in the RAM 1500, Ford F-150 and Chevrolet Silverado 1500 - converted to right-hand drive in Melbourne with full factory backing.
