The Volkswagen ID. Buzz interior has been officially detailed ahead of the car’s global launch on March 9, European time.
According to Volkswagen, the five-seat ID. Buzz will have 1121L of luggage space with all seats up.
The ID. Buzz Cargo variant, which features two seats up front and a partition between those seats and the cargo area, can carry over 3900L worth of stuff.
Externally the ID. Buzz will be available with seven single-tone paint options, and four two-tone choices. The exterior colour scheme can be optionally carried through to the interior via the dash panel, door trim and seat coverings.
To give the car an air of whimsy, the ID. Buzz features happy faces and stylised drawings of itself scattered throughout the cabin. The people mover also includes a built-in bottle opener and ice scraper.
In a first for the Volkswagen brand, the ID. Buzz has a vegan-friendly interior, where leather and other animal-based products are replaced with substitute materials, some of which come from more sustainable sources.
Volkswagen says the ID. Buzz’s polyurethane steering wheel trim has a similar look and feel to leather, while the seat upholstery, headliner, and floor coverings are made from recycled materials.
Among the sustainable materials used is Seaqual yarn, which consists of 10 per cent marine plastic, with the remainder coming from recycled PET plastic bottles.
The ID. Buzz is also the first Volkswagen Group vehicle to be fitted with ArtVelours ECO seat fabric that is 71 per cent recycled material.
We’ve seen part of the ID. Buzz before. At the tail-end of January, a leak revealed elements from the cabin, including the two-level boot floor.
From what we know, the ID. Buzz will share its small digital instrumentation screen and larger touchscreen infotainment system with the ID.3 hatch and ID.4 crossover.
The automaker also hasn’t been shy with its rainbow camouflage ID. Buzz prototypes. The vehicles show the production car will be similar to the 2017 concept, albeit with some styling cues from later ID. models mixed in to an overall silhouette that recalls the original Kombi.
Eventually the ID. Buzz will be available in both five-seat short wheelbase, and seven-seat long wheelbase formats, with the latter primarily aimed at the US.
At launch, the ID. Buzz will come with with an 82kWh lithium-ion battery and a single, rear-mounted electric motor rated at 150kW and 310Nm.
In Europe, the ID. Buzz will support bi-directional charging, as well as ‘Plug & Charge’, which saves owners from having to create new accounts and enter their details for every charging network they use.
