Volkswagen Australia has revealed a prototype version of its new-generation Amarok targeting emergency service fleets across Australia.
The customised Amarok Style V6 was developed in conjunction with MFI and Ecco Safety Group and incorporates rear traffic alert, a built-in rear sign board and a reversing camera and sensors.
Previewed in Brisbane, it has been designed specifically for fire and rescue crews.
Inside, it features an infotainment system with integrated controls for the lights and sirens as well as number plate recognition capability.
This removes the need for additional screens, saving money, weight and space.
A similar infotainment set-up was released in the Volkswagen Passat in late 2022, and has been developed in collaboration with Lumen Australia, Obses UK and Ecco Safety Group.
A wide range of Volkswagen vehicles can already be found on Australian emergency services fleets, including the Crafter, Golf wagon, Tiguan Allspace Proline and the outgoing Passat Proline in both sedan and wagon guise.
“Year to date, we have sold more than 1,400 Passat Proline wagons and sedans, and almost 600 Tiguan Allspace Proline – and counting,” said Volkswagen and Cupra national fleet sales manager Regine Zschernig.
“Aside from the Proline adjustments, the police and ambulance have selected Volkswagen cars and SUVs that are essentially the very cars that the public drive.”
Proline models get different interior trim, an upgraded alternator, and a provision for an additional battery. The Tiguan Allspace Proline also loses the third row of seating found in 162TSI models for private buyers.
While the Passat is a common fixture on police fleets, this model is being discontinued in Australia this year.
