The rally-inspired Toyota GR Yaris has proven to be a hit Down Under – so much so the Japanese giant has had to temporarily pause new orders.
Toyota Australia says approximately 1700 examples of the GR Yaris have already been delivered to local customers. It’s currently negotiating further supply of the all-paw hot hatch from its global parent.
“To support passionate fans and the upcoming delivery of all vehicles ordered by customers to date, Toyota Australia has made the decision to place a temporary pause from July 1 on receiving future orders for GR Yaris, and expects to announce a recommencement of order taking for this much loved vehicle soon,” the company said.
The announcement comes on the back of strong sales from both the standard GR Yaris and the Rallye Edition.
The latter was revealed earlier in 2021 and is limited to 200 units.
Launched with a sharp $39,950 drive-away price for the first 1000 buyers (and followed by a $44,950 drive-away deal for the next 100 cars) the recommended retail price for the GR Yaris has since jumped to $49,500 before on-road costs.
Toyota Australia earlier this year confirmed it has sold more than 2200 GR Yaris and GR Yaris Rallye hot hatches, and hopes to have the vast majority in owner’s hands by the end of 2021.
