Toyota has reportedly pushed back the launch for the GR Corolla to late 2022, according to Forbes in the USA.
Initially set to debut in September 2021, the GR Corolla is expected to feature the same turbocharged 1.6-litre three-cylinder as the GR Yaris.
This is not to be confused with the hydrogen-powered Prius and Corolla discussed in the same report that will be launching in 2023.
The engine is expected to make 220kW of power, 20kW more than the GR Yaris thanks to a reworked exhaust system, and have an unchanged 370Nm of torque.

It’ll also feature the same all-wheel drive system as the GR Yaris, with the ability to send 70 per cent of torque to the rear axle, as well as the same six-speed manual transmission.
Many body styles of the GR Corolla have been speculated overseas, including a wagon, but expect to see only the five-door hatch make its way to Australian shores.
These details are still speculation with nothing officially confirmed yet by Toyota.
If the model does come to Australia, demand is expected to be high, as was the case with the GR Yaris.
The GR Corolla has been on our radars for a long time, with the GR Corolla nameplate having been trademarked in Australia since March 2020.
Toyota Australia has previously said it wants a proper hot hatch version of the Corolla.
“We’re not ruling out the GR Corolla Sport down the track, but at the moment we’re interested in a full-beans GR version, if it were to become available,” a Toyota spokesperson said.
