Toyota has confirmed a raft of its models will receive updates over the course of the second half of 2022, with the Corolla receiving the most significant changes.
Hybrid models will receive a performance upgrade, with peak power bumped by 8kW up to 98kW.
Toyota has made no mention of the 2.0-litre hybrid four-cylinder offered in markets such as Europe, which pumps out 135kW of power.
European-market Corolla
As previously revealed for Europe, the Australian-market Corolla will also receive Toyota’s latest-generation infotainment system, and will gain USB-C connectivity.
The Corolla currently features an 8.0-inch touchscreen in Australia, and European models running the new system also use an 8.0-inch unit.
It’ll be the latest model to receive Toyota Connected Services, which features an in-built data communication module. This supports features like automatic collision notification, SOS emergency calling, and stolen vehicle tracking.
Current Corolla
Toyota hasn’t released a full list of changes, nor has it released photos, but it says the Corolla will also feature “a number of updated safety and convenience features”, as well as new alloy wheel designs and an updated colour palette.
It’s unclear what the updated safety features will comprise, but the updated RAV4 is gaining emergency steering assist (which can help panicked drivers steer around an obstacle to avoid a crash) and intersection pre-collision safety (which prepares the car if it detects an imminent crash pulling out of an intersection).
The Yaris Cross will offer “improved technology”, though again what this means is unclear. It’s offered with a 7.0-inch instrument cluster screen and either 8.0- or 9.0-inch touchscreens overseas, but is sold here only with a 4.2-inch instrument screen and a 7.0-inch touchscreen.
Current Yaris Cross Urban
Toyota Australia has confirmed its entry-level crossover will additionally receive a range of new exterior colours and finishes, as well as “enhancements to interior trim” that includes the addition of black leather-accented upholstery on top-spec Urban models.
The Urban currently comes with unusual tweed-like upholstery with brown leatherette bolsters, which matches a two-tone black-and-brown dashboard and door trims.
The company says Yaris, C-HR and Camry models get a range of new exterior colours and finishes, though it hasn’t outlined any other changes for these models.
As previously reported, the GR Supra gets a new alloy wheel design and the option of a manual transmission.
Toyota says further details and pricing will be announced closer to each model’s arrival.
In addition to these updated and tweaked models, Toyota’s passenger car line-up will also see the arrival of a redesigned GR86 in the second half of this year, as well as the new GR Corolla hot hatch in the fourth quarter.
The updated RAV4, Australia’s best-selling SUV, is also coming in the second half of 2022.
