Toyota is recalling 18,490 vehicles across its C-HR, Yaris, Yaris Cross and GR Yaris lines due to a problem with its pre-collision system.
“The subject vehicles are equipped with a Millimetre Wave Sensor (radar sensor) and a camera to detect objects, such as another vehicle in front of the subject vehicle,” the company says in its recall notice.
“The radar sensor used by the Pre-Collision System (PCS) may not have been initialised properly in the involved vehicles during production. As a result, the PCS may be inoperative with no warning indicator to the driver.”
Your vehicle’s radar sensor may not be working properly if you notice the following:
- You can’t increase or decrease your adaptive cruise control’s set speed using the cruise control switch
- The lane centring function doesn’t work, even though the display says it’s active
- Vehicles ahead aren’t detected and shown in the instrument cluster screen when the adaptive cruise is on
- The adaptive cruise control doesn’t slow the vehicle down when approaching a vehicle
Toyota advises this issue may therefore increase the risk of a crash in certain driving situations.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to take it to a Toyota dealership for a free inspection, upon which the radar sensor will be initialised.
Toyota advises the inspection will take half an hour and the remedy an hour, however depending on the dealer’s work schedule you may need to make your vehicle available for a longer period of time.
