The Tesla Model 3 sedan was Europe’s top-selling car in March, according to a report compiled by Dataforce and run on Automotive News Europe.
Despite a 4.1 per cent decline on March 2021’s figure, the Tesla Model 3’s monthly tally of 23,144 sales across Europe put it ahead of the Peugeot 208 (second overall on 21,018 sales) and the Dacia Sandero (19,427 sales).
Tesla also claimed fourth spot on the monthly European sales charts with its Model Y crossover SUV tallying 19,255 reported sales, ahead of the fifth-placed Volkswagen Golf on 16,915 for March.
However, the March results are not entirely representative of Tesla’s actual standing in Europe. Over the first quarter of the calendar year, the Model 3 sat 19th on 33,037 sales, meaning March was an outlier month with a glut of shipments and deliveries.
Over the total Q1 of 2022, the Peugeot 208 sat first on 52,031 sales, ahead of the Dacia Sandero (51,496) and Volkswagen Golf (46,578).
Here in Australia, the Tesla Model 3 accounted for almost two-thirds of all electric car sales between January 1 and March 31, 2022.
The electric carmaker has sold 4417 examples of the Model 3 sedan to date in 2022 according to the latest VFACTS report, making it the best-selling electric car in Australia.
