Tesla has officially starting reporting its sales figures in Australia.
The electric carmaker has sold 4417 examples of the Model 3 sedan to date in 2022 according to the latest VFACTS report, making it the best-selling electric car in Australia.
Its sales account for almost two-thirds (65.4 per cent) of all Australian electric vehicle sales so far in 2022. Despite no reported deliveries of the Model S, Model X, and Model Y, the Model 3’s strong quarter means Tesla is ahead of Honda (4089) on the sales charts.
It’s comfortably sitting ahead of Audi (2713) and Lexus (2088) in the luxury sales race, although it still trails BMW and Mercedes-Benz.
The Model 3 is trailed by the Mercedes-Benz EQA (318 sales) and Hyundai Kona Electric (304) on the EV model sales charts.
Mercedes-Benz is leading the luxury electric sales race with 490 sales across its EQA (318) and EQC (172) model lines, trailed by Porsche and its electric Taycan (160).
Kia has now delivered 141 examples of the EV6 in 2022, and Hyundai has put 133 examples of the Ioniq 5 in the hands of customers. Combined, the 643 cars Hyundai sold between the Ioniq EV (206), Kona EV (304) and Ioniq 5 puts it ahead of Mercedes-Benz for EV sales.
BMW sold 216 electric cars across the new i4 (44), iX (84), and iX3 (86) model lines, as it prepares to ramp up its electric push in Australia.
Volvo is nipping at Hyundai and Kia’s heels with the XC40 Recharge, with 131 reported deliveries in Q1.
The long-running Nissan Leaf found 119 homes in the first quarter, narrowly ahead of the Polestar 2 (115). This is the first month of sales reporting for Polestar, which began delivering to Australian customers in March.
Both outsold the usually-popular MG ZS EV (111), which is being replaced with a new model later in 2022. Also being replaced later in the year is the Kia Niro EV (79).
Audi’s e-tron SUV found 33 homes in the first quarter of 2022, narrowly ahead of the Lexus UX300e (29), while the Jaguar I-Pace recorded five sales.
Mazda moved nine examples of the MX-30 EV, while the Renault Kangoo and BMW i3 S are still rolling… just.
