Tesla Model 3 and Model Y recalled over rules breach

Earlier this week, Tesla was forced to stop selling the new Model 3. Now, it's been forced to issue an update to the existing Model 3 and Model Y.

Tesla Australia has recalled the 2022 and 2023Model 3 and Model Y to fix a problem with the steering – but it’s not an urgent safety issue.

“Due to a software issue, the steering wheel may feel notchy when operating the vehicle in cold temperatures,” the recall says.

“There is no safety hazard and the defect will not affect the performance of the vehicle. Vehicles may not be compliant with the (Australian Design Rule ADR 90/01 – Steering System) 2021.”

    • A total of 4382 vehicles are included in the campaign
    • A VIN list of the affected vehicles is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Owners aren’t required to take their car back to the dealer to have the problem fixed.

“Owners of affected vehicles should either contact Tesla to make an appointment to have the vehicle software version inspected and updated to version 2023.38 or later, free of charge, or update their vehicle’s software as they usually do using main screen,” the recall notice says.
