Mercedes-Benz has revealed a diamond-encrusted special edition G-Class to celebrate Valentine’s Day
This special G-Wagen, called the Stronger Than Diamonds Edition, is limited to 300 units and will set customers back €175,000 in Germany (A$289,200) excluding on-road costs.
There’s a 0.25-carat diamond set into all four interior stainless steel door locks, while on the outside the door handles feature an embossed diamond logo.
Mercedes-Benz has specially developed the Rosewood Magno exterior paint colour through its Manufaktur program.
Inside, there’s Manufaktur black Nappa leather upholstery with rose contrast stitching, with the interior also featuring Manufaktur deep-pile floor mats.
A Stronger Than Diamonds badge features on the passenger side grab handle and illuminated entry sills. The Stronger Than Diamonds motif also continues on the black indoor car cover.
Each vehicle key has a genuine silver badge which has the name of the special edition plus diamond insignia.
The 300 units will come with a certificate from the Responsible Jewellery Council confirming the diamonds originate from ethically, socially and ecologically responsible sources.
While diamonds are a highly unusual inclusion for a vehicle, they’re not the most bizarre items to be included in a special edition vehicle.
Rival BMW released a special edition of its 8 Series in 2019, called the Night Sky, that used around 600g of material from a meteorite in its interior.
