The sun has set early on the Rolls-Royce Dawn and Wraith in Australia.
The coupe and convertible are no longer available to order locally, following their withdrawal from the US market in 2021.
“Global demand and production for Phantom, Cullinan, Ghost, Wraith and Dawn are at an all-time high, after a record year in 2021,” said a spokesperson for Rolls-Royce Motor Cars Australia.
“Phantom, Cullinan and Ghost have been given priority allocation in Australia. Sadly, Wraith and Dawn are now fully booked out for Australia and will no longer be available to order.”
That’ll leave the local Rolls-Royce range without a two-door until the all-electric Spectre arrives.
The Spectre is expected to arrive in the fourth quarter of 2023, though Rolls-Royce is already taking orders.
“It is not in any way the successor of the Wraith. It’s a different proposition for our clients. It will feel very different, it will look very different,” Rolls-Royce CEO Torsten Mueller-Oetvoes told Automotive News Europe.
The new electric grand tourer will use a version of Rolls-Royce’s new aluminium Architecture of Luxury, which also underpins the current Phantom, Ghost and Cullinan.
The Dawn and Wraith are related to the first-generation Ghost mechanically, which in turn was derived from the platform of the F01-series BMW 7 Series, launched in 2008.
They also use an older 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 engine than Rolls-Royce models on the Architecture of Luxury, related to the V12 engine of the BMW M760Li that’s ending production in June.
Newer Rolls-Royce models use a 6.75-litre twin-turbo V12.
The Wraith coupe arrived here in 2013, while the Dawn convertible followed in 2015.
Rolls-Royce moved its two-door body styles to the Ghost platform with the Wraith and Dawn, supplanting the old Phantom Coupe and Phantom Drophead Coupe.
Combined, the Dawn and Wraith were Rolls-Royce’s most popular vehicles in Australia last year with 20 sales. The company sold 15 Cullinans and 13 of its sedans.
Rolls-Royce is one of the rare companies where its two-door models are outselling its SUV product.
Since the Cullinan’s launch in 2018, it’s only outsold the Dawn and Wraith in one year. However, it’s worth noting VFACTS bundles Dawn and Wraith sales together.
