Renault Australia has recalled 1714 examples of its Trafic van, due to a fault which can cause the side airbags to deploy inadvertently.
“Due to a manufacturing issue with the side airbag mounting sensors, forceful closing of the driver or passenger door may cause unintended vibration of the mounting frame. If this occurs, the side airbags may inadvertently deploy,” said the French carmaker in its recall notice.
“If vehicle occupants are sitting inside the vehicle when the airbags are inadvertently deployed, it may result in serious injury.

- A total of 1714 vehicles built between 2022 and 2023 are affected

Renault has advised Trafic owners to make sure occupants don’t use excessive force to close their van’s doors.
If you own an affected Trafic, Renault will contact you to book an appointment with your nearest authorised dealership to have the work carried out free of charge.
