The Range Rover is turning 50.

Born in 1970, Land Rover’s luxury SUV remains one of the world’s most potent status symbols despite strong competition from its modern European rivals.

To celebrate the transition from a single two-door luxury off-roader into a line-up of cars ranging from the compact Evoque to the long-wheelbase Range Rover, a total of 37 examples of the Range Rover Fifty are coming to Australia.

In Australia, the Fifty will be a standard wheelbase Range Rover powered by a supercharged 5.0-litre V8 engine with 386kW of power and 625Nm of torque.

Four colours will be offered: Carpathian Grey, Rosello Red, Aruba, and Santorini Black

Based on the Autobiography, the Fifty features exterior highlights in a deep shade of gold dubbed Auric Atlas, and two unique 22-inch alloy wheel designs.

A unique Fifty motif designed by Land Rover chief creative officer, Gerry McGovern, features on the badging, door sills, headrests, and dashboard, and the transmission tunnel is home to a build plaque.

“In the world of luxury vehicles, the Range Rover has always stood apart as peerless and enduring,” said Gerry McGovern.

“Its unique and pioneering sensibilities together with an unrivalled engineering approach have been the intrinsic values which our customers have admired since the first of the breed was revealed in 1970.”

The Range Rover SWB Autobiography on which the Fifty is based is priced from $274,210 before on-road costs. Expect to pay a premium for exclusivity.
