Porsche’s best-selling car, the petrol Macan SUV, will be retired to make room for its electric replacement in 2024.
The brand has told dealers orders for the production for the current Macan SUV and the 718 sports car line-up will end in the third quarter of 2024.
Anyone who wants to order either car before they disappear will need to get in before the middle of 2024, or be willing to take delivery of a pre-configured car in stock with a dealer.

Orders for the as-yet unrevealed electric Macan will open early in 2024 when the vehicle is shown off in full for the first time, ahead of the car’s arrival in local showrooms late in 2024.
During his time as vice president responsible for the 911 and 718 model lines, Frank-Steffen Walliser told CarExpert there would be limited crossover between the existing petrol and incoming electric Macan in Porsche showrooms.
We don’t yet know when the electric 718 Cayman and Boxster replacement foreshadowed by the Mission R concept will reach production, although we expect it to be at some point in 2025.
Transition to electric power aside, the 718 and Macan line-ups were approaching the end of their lives in Australia.
All new vehicles introduced to Australia since March 2023 require a certain type of autonomous emergency braking under Australian Design Rules (ADRs); that requirement will be expanded to all vehicles sold locally from March 2025 regardless of when they were introduced.
A version of the technology – which automatically brakes if it detects an imminent collision – is offered on the 718 Cayman or Boxster, along with the Macan. Porsche says the system isn’t compliant with the new rules coming in 2025, however.

The Macan has been treated to two significant facelifts since its debut in 2012, but hasn’t been replaced by an all-new car with a compliant AEB system.
Likewise the 718 Boxster and Cayman, which debuted in 2016, have their roots in the 981-generation car revealed in 2012.
To date in 2023, Porsche has sold 5750 cars in Australia. Its best seller is the Macan SUV, with 2746 deliveries, followed by the Cayenne range with 1478 deliveries.
