Multiple Mercedes-Benz models recalled again for fire risk

Mercedes-Benz is recalling six models as they could lose power or catch fire, and vehicles already recalled for the fault may be affected.

Mercedes-Benz Australia is recalling 37 vehicles across six model lines, including five Mercedes-AMG variants, to fix an issue that could lead to a vehicle fire, but which wasn’t resolved correctly in a previous recall.

“Due to a manufacturing defect, vehicle management systems connected to the fuse box may fail,” the company says in its recall notice.

“If this occurs, it may lead to a sudden loss of motive power and/or a vehicle fire.

“Certain vehicles that previously had this recall rectification carried out may have been fitted with the incorrect replacement part.”

“A sudden loss of motive power whilst driving and/or a vehicle fire could increase the potential risk of an accident, causing serious injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users, bystanders and/or damage to property,” the company warns.

A total of 37 vehicles produced in 2023 are affected:

Mercedes-Benz Australia had previously issued a recall for 1983 vehicles across eight model lines in March 2024.

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to contact an authorised Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the fuse box replaced as it may have been fitted with an incorrect part when last year’s recall was carried out.

Rectification work is free of charge.
