Mercedes-Benz has recalled 92 examples of its Sprinter van, as the driver’s side B-pillar may become loose over time and not perform as intended in a crash.
“Due to a manufacturing defect, the driver’s side B-pillar may not have been welded to the required specification,” the carmaker said in its recall notice.
“As a result, the reinforcement in the pillar may become loose over time and could fail to transmit the seat belt forces to the B-pillar as intended.
“In the event of an accident, if the seat belt does not operate as intended, the occupant may not receive the full protection of the seatbelt system and this could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants.”
If you own an affected Sprinter, contact your preferred Mercedes-Benz dealership to have the work carried out as soon as possible, free of charge.
If you have any further questions, you can contact Mercedes-Benz’s customer assistance centre on 1300 762 718.
