Mercedes-Benz Australia has confirmed orders for its AMG G63 are still closed for the foreseeable future.
This comes as the company detailed the on-sale date and pricing for its limited-edition G63 Edition 55 that commemorates the 55th anniversary of the Mercedes-AMG brand.
Orders for the Mercedes-AMG G63 Edition 55 will be treated as separate to the regular G63, according to the Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson.
Existing order holders for the regular G63 will be treated on a case-by-case basis, added the spokesperson, and they may be asked by their dealer if they want to get the G63 Edition 55 instead.
Orders for the limited-edition G63 Edition 55 will essentially be a “first in, best dressed” scenario, though.
New orders for the regular Mercedes-AMG G63 have been closed now since the middle of 2021 and don’t appear to reopening anytime soon.
“We have no announcements today about when orders will reopen on G63,” said a Mercedes-Benz Australia spokesperson.
Midway though last year Mercedes-AMG increased the asking price of the G63 by $50,000 to $365,091 before on-road costs.
It also axed the entry-level, diesel-powered G400d after only 12 months on sale in Australia.
Looking to the future, Mercedes-Benz revealed the “near-production”, electric Concept EQG in September 2021, with evolutionary looks and the promise of enough off-road ability to match its iconic predecessors.
Spied Mercedes-Benz EQG prototype
A production Mercedes-Benz EQG is expected to be revealed in 2024. We’ve already had a ride-along in a camouflaged prototype, and also seen a number of spied prototypes.
This electric G-Class will have a quad-electric motor setup and be based on a variation of the regular G-Class’s traditional body-on-frame underpinnings.
The production version of the Mercedes-Benz EQG will be built alongside the combustion G-Class at partner Magna Steyr’s plant in Graz, Austria.
