Mazda CX-80 launching in Europe, UK in 2023 – Australian plans unclear

Mazda UK has confirmed the three-row CX-80 will be hitting Europe and Great Britain next year, becoming the brand's new flagship there.

The all-new three-row Mazda CX-80 will launch next year, according to Mazda UK.

Based on the company’s new rear-biased Large Architecture, which underpins the upcoming CX-60 already confirmed for our market – as well as the as yet unrevealed CX-70 and CX-90 crossovers – the previously confirmed CX-80 will be a three-row companion to the CX-60 in the same way the existing CX-8 is essentially a stretched CX-5.

In a media release detailing the 3.3-litre e-Skyactiv D inline-six diesel for the UK market, Mazda’s European and UK division confirmed the larger CX-80 will launch in that region during the course of 2023.

“In 2023, the company will launch a new model, the Mazda CX-80, which is larger than the Mazda CX-60 and features three rows of seating,” Mazda said in its press release.

No further details were announced, but given the shared DNA with the smaller CX-60, we can anticipate a range of electrified powertrains for the seven-seat SUV, including 48V mild-hybrid inline-six petrol and diesel powerplants, as well as a four-cylinder plug-in hybrid.

The CX-80 will also likely serve as the brand’s new flagship in its home market of Japan, given the current CX-8 is the largest offering there as the US-focused CX-9 is too large for the domestic market.

So far only the CX-60 has been confirmed for the Australian market, due in the first half of 2023, with a trio of electrified powertrains.

While the CX-70, CX-80 and CX-90 haven’t been officially confirmed for an Australian launch, it’s understood the company is looking into all available options. Keep in mind the CX-8 and CX-9 are currently sold alongside each other in Australia.
