Mazda has officially set the reveal date for its next premium SUV that will be built on its new rear-/all-wheel drive Large Architecture.
As spotted by Reddit user Mako3232, the Mazda Canada website now has a page that’s counting down to the reveal of the new CX-70. It’s currently set for January 30 at 11AM EST (Jan 31 at 3AM AEDT).
On the webpage there’s also what appears to be an SUV with a cover draped over it, though it’s unclear if this is actually the CX-70.
As previously reported, the Mazda CX-70 is the Japanese carmaker’s next premium two-row SUV and is primarily targeted at North America.
CX-90
For now the Mazda CX-70 still hasn’t been confirmed for the Australian market, though Mazda Australia has already locked in the yet-to-be revealed CX-80 three-row SUV to sit alongside the CX-60 two-row SUV and CX-90 three-row SUV.
Mazda has yet to officially release any images or teasers of the CX-70, and it has yet to be spied testing. However, in a Q&A session back in February last year, the company referred to the CX-70 as being a “two-row models with the same body [as the CX-90]”.
Mazda North America Operations CEO told Automotive News in October last year will offer five seats and a hybrid powertrain.
CX-60
It’s unclear if this availability of a hybrid powertrain means mild-hybrid or plug-in hybrid powertrains, or both.
The Mazda CX-70 will form as the fourth SUV based on the Large Architecture, following the CX-60, CX-90, as well as the yet-to-be revealed CX-80.
While the CX-70 is a two-row counterpart to the CX-90, aimed at the North American market, the CX-80 is a three-row companion to the two-row CX-60 that’s aimed at Europe and Japan.

“We’re very comfortable we’ll end up with more market coverage and not less,” Mazda Australia national marketing manager Alastair Doak told CarExpert in March last year, when asked about the addition of yet more SUVs to its line-up.
“We’re quite comfortable that each will occupy a different space and tell a different story. If we weren’t comfortable, we might not have been confirming CX-80 today.
“They will be different, and they will have a very clear space in the portfolio.”
Mazda has also cleared some space by axing the front/all-wheel drive CX-8. The CX-9 has also been retired, though unlike the CX-8 it has ended production globally.
