Mazda Australia has recalled the 2005-2012 RX-8 and 6 MPS to fix a problem with the fuel pump retaining rings.

“Due to improper installation of the fuel pump retaining rings they may crack and result in a fuel leak. There is an additional risk of damage due to heat exposure from the engine and exhaust pipe with the RX-8 model,” Mazda says in its recall notice.

“A fuel leak at the fuel tank may result in an underbody fire. A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users or bystanders.”

    • A total of 2506 vehicles are included in the recall
    • A VIN list of affected vehicles is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

Mazda Australia will contact owners of the affected vehicles and advise them to schedule a free fix.
