China’s LDV is continuing to roll out new vehicles in its domestic market at pace, the latest being a mid-sized passenger van with some funky design touches and two-tone colours.
The Maxus V70 – the company called LDV in Australia uses the Maxus branding elsewhere – looks rather like a Ford Transit Custom from the side, but has an interesting front grille, and uses fun two-tone colours a bit like a Volkswagen Multivan.
We also understand that LDV Australia’s importer is aware of the V70 and is looking at the vehicle, though it has not itself commented on any plans one way or another.
Official details are quite scarce on Chinese car sites and social media such as Weibo, though we know the launch V70s have multiple rows of seats. We’d imagine a two-seat work van is in the works however, to either sell beside the LDV G10 or to perhaps replace it.
While SAIC Motor’s home site (SAIC Motor being Maxus/LDV’s parent) offers almost no data, well-placed sources in China say the V70 launches with a 93kW 2.0-litre turbo-diesel and nine-speed automatic, with fuel consumption of 7.4L/100km.
It also sits on a new architecture, SAIC adds.
An EV70 electric version seems a formality, given the company makes a range of EV workhorses and people-movers – including the Australian market eDeliver 9 and MIFA 9.
It’s been a huge year for LDV Australia, launching the aforementioned eDeliver 9 and MIFA 9, as well as the eT60 electric ute. Beyond this the company has launched the updated T60 Max diesel, and the petrol-powered MIFA people mover.
It’s sold 14,813 vehicles in Australia this year, led by the T60. It’s also posted big growth from the D90 large SUV, the diesel Deliver 9 is Australia’s top-selling large van, and the smaller G10 is number-three behind the Toyota HiAce and Hyundai Staria Load in its segment sales race.
