Kia has increased the recommended retail pricing and national drive-away pricing for eight of its 10 models sold in Australia.
These models are the Picanto micro hatchback, Rio small hatchback, Cerato small sedan and hatch, Stinger large hatch, Stonic light SUV, Seltos small SUV, Sorento large SUV, and the Carnival people mover.
“The various increases across the range are due to external factors such as exchange rates and business costs,” said a Kia Australia spokesperson.
There aren’t any specification changes to the Kia models affected by the price hike beyond the addition of the new badges.
The only models that didn’t receive a price increase in this latest round are the special-edition Kia Rio SX hatchback, the Kia Niro small SUV, and the redesigned Kia Sportage mid-size SUV.
Before on-road costs prices are up by between $300 and $1000, depending on the model and variant. It’s a similar story with the drive-away pricing which is up by between $500 and $2000, also depending on the model and variant.
Kia isn’t alone in upping its prices in Australia. Many brands, including Skoda and the Chinese-owned MG, announced price increases for 2022 due to parts shortages, shipping challenges, and tight supply.
Kia Australia plans to launch the Sorento Hybrid in the first quarter of 2022, the new Niro in the third quarter of 2022, and the updated Seltos in the second half of 2022.
The updated 2022 pricing for the Kia Picanto, Kia Rio, Kia Cerato, Kia Stinger, Kia Stonic, Kia Seltos, Kia Sorento and Kia Carnival are as follows:
Kia Picanto
Kia Rio
Kia Cerato
Hatch and sedan models are offered at the same price
Kia Stinger
Kia Stonic
Kia Seltos
Kia Sorento
Kia Carnival
All prices exclude on-road costs unless stated otherwise.
