Off-roader brand Ineos Automotive wants to let buyers of its Grenadier SUV customise them with design and mechanical enhancements.

Ineos has launched a personalisation service called Arcane Works which will create limited-edition versions of the Grenadier off-roader, which customers will then be able to personalise further.

The first Arcane Works limited-edition vehicle will be unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in July 2024.

Options available for customers through the Arcane Works program will include bespoke materials and unique detailing.

Ineos also says it will use these limited-edition vehicles to “showcase a unique set of features”.

It says Arcane Works will become a “test bed” for new technologies, including uprated engine modifications and new chassis systems.

Each limited-edition vehicle will also carry a “tailored name”.

The Grenadier was introduced in Australia in 2023, and is the brainchild of Sir Jim Ratcliffe, the British billionaire engineer and chairman of multinational petrochemical giant Ineos. No expense has been spared on his passion project.

The official story says Ratcliffe was hanging out in London’s Grenadier pub in 2017, bemoaning Land Rover’s decision to kill the old Defender and replace it with the more modern and luxurious new SUV model.

Built in an old Smart factory in France, the Grenadier features a rugged ladder-frame underpinnings, low-range gearing and multiple diff locks. It’s powered by a pair of BMW-sourced inline six-cylinder engines.
