Hyundai increases prices on most N cars

Hyundai Australia has increased the before on-road asking price on almost all its high-performance N models by $500.

Effective from April 1, this $500 price increase affects the i20 N and i30 N hatchbacks, as well as the Kona N SUV. The only N car that isn’t affected by this price rise is the i30 Sedan N.

“The recent Hyundai vehicle pricing increases can be attributed to a rise in transport and manufacturing costs,” said a Hyundai Australia spokesperson.

The Hyundai i20 N now starts at $32,990 before on-road costs and the i30 N range now starts at $45,000 before on-road costs.

The Hyundai Kona N range now starts at $48,000 before on-road costs.

Hyundai isn’t alone in raising its prices recently. Subaru recently upped the prices on some of its models, and brands such as Volkswagen, BMW, Audi, Isuzu, Jeep, Kia, Skoda, MG and GWM Haval have done similar over the past several months.

The N range grew considerably last year with the introductions of the i20 N, i30 Sedan N and Kona N.

2022 is a quieter year for Hyundai’s performance line, though the Korean brand has confirmed the limited edition i30 N Drive-N hatch is coming Down Under.

180 examples of the hatch will make the trip to Australia, with 126 of these having a dual-clutch transmission and the remaining 54 having a manual.

Hyundai says approximately 70 per cent will be finished in Serenity White Pearl, with the remainder finished in black.

Power comes from an unchanged 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine producing 206kW of power and 392Nm of torque. This is mated to either a six-speed manual or eight-speed dual-clutch transmission with drive sent to the front wheels exclusively.

Pricing for the Drive-N hasn’t been revealed yet, but the regular i30 N range tops out at $52,500 before on-road costs. The special edition will likely be between $2000 and $3000 pricier than the equivalent i30 N.
