The first hybrid Honda HR-V in Australia is the latest victim of supply-related delays, within a month of going on sale.
According to Honda Australia director Stephen Collins, the all-new HR-V e:HEV L is already subject to “a four-month wait” depending on the colour specified if you were to order today.
“One of the issues we’re facing, like everyone at the moment, is just supply,” Mr Collins said.
“I think there’s a reasonably healthy wait already [on HR-V hybrid], but we’re working to correct that.”
Mr Collins added that the base petrol-powered HR-V Vi X is “in pretty good supply”, however.
Priced from $45,000 drive-away, the 2022 Honda HR-V e:HEV L is powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder hybrid system developing system outputs of 96kW (4000-8000rpm) and 253Nm (0-3000rpm). Drive is sent exclusively to the front axle via an e-CVT with paddle shifters – which can be used to adjust regenerative braking intensity.
Honda claims the first hybrid HR-V in Australia consumes only 4.3L/100km on the combined cycle, with emissions of 98g/km of CO2.
Meanwhile, the HR-V Vi X features a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated four-cylinder petrol engine developing 89kW (6600rpm) and 145Nm (4300rpm) with idle stop/start technology, driving the front wheels via a CVT automatic. Fuel consumption for the petrol model is listed at 5.8L/100km on the combined cycle.
The new-generation arrives in Australia with a pared back model range, higher pricing and a four-seat interior, offset somewhat by the inclusion of more standard equipment and technology as well as a hybrid option for the first time locally.
It’s also worth noting the new HR-V is sourced from Japan, rather than Thailand like its predecessor, and Honda Australia has significantly cut running costs with its new Low Price Services program, which sees the first five scheduled visits costing just $125.
Stay tuned for our Australian launch drive review on Thursday May 12.
