If you’re going to put a car engine in the middle of your living room floor, a Ferrari V8 is probably one of the most aesthetically pleasing options.
Auction house RM Sotheby’s is giving you the opportunity, with a 4.5-litre ‘F136’ V8 from a Ferrari 458 – said to have been used in competition – set to go under the hammer tomorrow (January 24) in the US state of Arizona.

It’s not cheap, though – the auction house expects it’ll sell for between US$50,000 and $75,000 (~A$79,700 to $119,500). That’s not cheap for an engine that isn’t, you know, powering a Ferrari.
Whoever created this didn’t just rip out the engine, dump it on the floor and call it a day though.
It’s been cleaned, for starters, and equipped with a tempered glass tabletop that’s around 13mm thick and measures 1524mm by 1397mm, as well as metal supports including one with Ferrari’s prancing horse logo.
With the top of the engine poking up through the tabletop, though, there’s not a lot of space left for your Ferrari coffee table books.
The table is on casters to make it easier to manoeuvre into the ideal spot in your home, but it does measure a hefty 113kg. Remember to bend your knees and not your back when moving…
