Last year spy photos confirmed Genesis was working on a coupe version of its GV80 SUV, and now reports suggest the new SUV could arrive as early as next year.
The Korean Car Blog reports the new GV80 coupe is expected to launch in January 2024, while the regular GV80 is also expected to receive a facelift.
Woopa TV spied the coupe, seemingly production-ready but camouflaged, in a Korean car park.
This will give Genesis a rival to the likes of the BMW X6, Audi Q8 and Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
The new coupe will reportedly use only the GV80’s flagship engine: a 3.5-litre twin-turbo V6 petrol with 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque.
The coupe will reportedly feature a more sloped front end, as well as a more rakish tailgate with a small rear spoiler. The GV80’s third row of seats is expected to be deleted.
While camouflaged, the tail lights appear to have a new design which is rumoured to feature in the upcoming GV80 facelift as well.
Other spy photos show a new rear bumper design featuring available quad exhaust outlets, which could indicate a performance model is on the cards.
Other design changes include new wheels – which have been spotted with three different designs – as well as unique trim and new headlights similar to that of the new G90 sedan.
The coupe was first teased in 2021 at the back of a Genesis promo video in a 1:18 model form.
The GV80 currently available in Australia is expected to receive a mid-life facelift with reports suggesting it will be revealed sometime in 2024.
For 2023, it has received locally retuned Electronic Control Suspension intended to improve refinement and comfort.
“The aim of the software changes was to better manage body control movements across certain road speeds,” said Genesis Australia product development manager Tim Rodgers.
“The revisions don’t change the character of GV80, but in terms of body motion the SUV now feels a bit more tied down.
Sales figures for 2022 show that Genesis’ SUV line-up outsold its sedan range, and by a considerable margin.
The top seller for the year was the GV70 with 499 sales, followed by the GV80 with 251 and the all-electric GV60 with 114.
Genesis also sold 94 G70s, plus 81 G80 sedans.
