Genesis could be getting into the coupe SUV game.
A scale model of a Genesis GV80-based coupe SUV was spied in the background of a video about Genesis’ design team, on the right-hand side of a shelving unit filled with scale models.
Other models on the shelves include the G70 sedan and Shooting Brake, G80 and G90 sedans, the Mint concept, and the X concept.
Peer closer and there’s a SUV in the bottom-left corner, which doesn’t look like any current Genesis crossover or previous concept and appears to have been darkened to mask its features.
It could potentially be the upcoming GV90, which will reportedly share the all-electric e-GMP architecture with, among other vehicles, the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq 7 and Kia EV9 full-sized crossovers.
The GV80 Coupe is easier to make out and looks largely as you would expect – a GV80 SUV, but with a much more steeply raked rear window.
The brightwork along the bottom of the body also rises more sharply aft of the rear wheels, while there looks to be a small rear spoiler.
The Korean Car Blog reports such a model appears to be in the works.
Should Genesis introduce a GV80 Coupe, it would give the Korean luxury brand a rival to the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe, Audi Q8 and BMW X6.
Given Genesis has yet to roll out a performance division, à la Mercedes-AMG or BMW M, a GV80 Coupe line-up would likely top out with the current twin-turbocharged 3.5-litre V6 petrol engine.
It produces 279kW of power and 530Nm of torque elsewhere in the Genesis range.
The GV80 range also currently includes a 2.5-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol with 224kW and 422Nm, and a 3.0-litre inline-six turbo-diesel with 204kW and 588Nm.
All engines are mated with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Also shown during the video was what appears to be a Shooting Brake version of the Genesis X concept.
Genesis has been progressively rolling out a range of SUVs since initially launching with a sedan-only line-up.
The GV80 was launched in Australia in 2020, with the mid-sized GV70 following this year. The smaller, all-electric GV60 crossover will follow in the first half of 2022, along with an electric version of the GV70.
A report from Korean outlet ET News also suggests the full-sized GV90 will be introduced in 2023.

Genesis’ SUV models are driving growth for the brand, which only arrived in Australia in 2019.
They’re vastly outselling their sedan counterparts, with the GV70 logging 220 sales this year to the end of November, and the GV80 sitting at 258.
While the fledgling models are still far from matching the Germans in the sales race, the GV70 is outselling the Alfa Romeo Stelvio (173) and the GV80 is edging closer to the likes of the Jaguar F-Pace (399), Maserati Levante (365) and Porsche Cayenne wagon (367).
