While the Citroen C4 has launched locally with a single, petrol-powered variant, it could be joined by an electric model.
Peugeot Citroen Australia says it’s evaluating the electric e-C4, though it’s yet to be locked in for Australia.
Should it launch locally, it would be the brand’s first electric vehicle in Australia.
The e-C4 uses a 50kWh lithium-ion battery and a front-mounted electric motor with 100kW of power and 260Nm of torque.
It has an electric range of 350km under the stricter WLTP cycle and does the 0-100km/h sprint in 9.7 seconds in Sport mode, up to a top speed of 150km/h.
Using a 100kW fast charger, the e-C4 can be charged from zero to 80 per cent in 30 minutes. With the optional 11kW home charger, it takes five hours on three-phase power.
The C4 has launched locally in a single well-equipped Shine variant, priced at $37,990 before on-road costs. Expect the e-C4, if it’s launched here, to command a significant premium over that.

While not fully electric, the plug-in hybrid version of the Peugeot 508 costs almost $20,000 more than its equivalent petrol version.
While it straddles the small hatch and small SUV segments, the C4 is based on the Stellantis EMP1 platform that underpins the likes of the Peugeot 208 and 2008.
Stellantis has now rolled out electric versions of all EMP1 models sold in Europe, including the aforementioned Peugeots, the Opel Corsa and Mokka, and the DS3 Crossback.
Peugeot Australia confirmed earlier this year it would introduce its first electric vehicles to Australia in 2022, though it stopped short of confirming whether that’d include the e-208 and e-2008.
The brand has a complete range of electric light commercial vehicles available in Europe, comprising electric versions of the Partner, Expert and Boxer. The local arm has said these are under consideration, too.
Before the Peugeot brand introduces its first EVs, it’ll introduce plug-in hybrid vehicles in the shape of the 3008 GT Sport Plug-In Hybrid and 508 GT Fastback Plug-In Hybrid in early 2022.

Citroen currently has no electrified vehicles in its limited local range, however it says the plug-in hybrid variant of the new C5 X is under consideration.
The C5 X is launching locally in the third quarter of 2022.
The brand also offers a plug-in hybrid version of the C5 Aircross in Europe, however this isn’t sold here.
Also off the table are any of Citroen’s electric vans, with Peugeot Citroen Australia choosing to focus on cars and SUVs exclusively for the Citroen brand following the axing of the Berlingo in 2019.
