Keen to get your hands on the BMW M3 Touring? Best not be picky.
The holy grail of BMW wagons will launch in 2022 according to BMW Blog, but it’ll only be available in range-topping Competition all-wheel drive guise when it does.
The M3 Touring has already been confirmed for a local arrival by BMW Australia, though the company has remained tight-lipped on launch timing.
According to BMW Blog, most markets will receive the M3 Touring by early 2023 which may coincide with a mid-cycle facelift for the line.
For the diehard manual purists, a six-speed manual gearbox will be available in both M3 sedan and M4 coupe models from later this year.
The Competition Touring will use the same 3.0-litre twin turbo inline six-cylinder engine as the rest of the range.
The ‘S58’ engine in Competition tune pushes out healthy figures of 375kW of power and 650Nm of torque.
In the M3 sedan, the 0-100km/h sprint takes 3.9 seconds.
Previously released spy shots of the Touring show the car sporting upgrades including a lowered suspension, sportier side sills, wide tyres, a quad-exhaust setup and the dramatic new double kidney grille of other M3 and M4 models.
For those who can’t wait until 2023, the M3 sedan and M4 coupe will arrive in Australia in the first quarter of 2021.
They’ll initially be available only in rear-wheel drive base and Competition models, with all-wheel drive Competition models arriving by the end of 2021.
Regular M3 and M4 models produce 353kW and 550Nm, with 0-100km/h taking a claimed 4.2 seconds. A six-speed manual is standard.
Stepping up to the Competition replaces the manual with an eight-speed torque-converter automatic.
This will be the first M3 Touring to ever be released. More than two decades ago, an E46 M3 Touring was created but never saw production.
