Bentley is continuing its journey to a green future with the addition of the Flying Spur Hybrid, which joins the Bentayga Hybrid.
Orders are open now, with customer arrivals in Australia beginning in early 2022.
The biggest talking point of the Flying Spur is a new hybrid drivetrain, a 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engine mated to a supplementary electric motor and a 14.1kWh lithium-ion battery.
The twin-turbo V6 engine delivers 112kW/litre, which is higher than the V8 found in the regular Flying Spur.
Total system outputs are 400kW of power and 750Nm of torque and the Flying Spur Hybrid does the 0-100km/h sprint in 4.3 seconds.
With this powertrain, Bentley says the new Flying Spur Hybrid has a range of 700km with an electric-only range of an estimated 40km (WLTP).
Bentley has incorporated three distinct electric drive modes into the Flying Spur in what it calls a “subtle integration of technology”.
EV Drive is an all-electric mode designed for short city trips, Hybrid utilises both petrol and electric motors to maximise vehicle efficiency and Hold pushes back high-voltage battery use for a later stage.
Like many other modern car brands, Bentley includes connected car services to make life with the Flying Spur easier.
A dedicated mobile app allows owners to view car statistics, change cabin temperatures or remotely initiate a charge (as long as the car is already plugged in).
Customers will have a choice of seven exterior colours for the Flying Spur Hybrid. If that’s not enough, there are 60 additional colours in the Bentley extended paint range to choose from.
Three wheel sizes are offered: a 22-inch Mulliner Driving Specification wheel, a 21-inch wheel or the standard 20-inch.
Inside, the Flying Spur Hybrid is a modern and comfortable place to be with the choice of five hide colours for the seats and trim. A further 10 hide colours can be configured.
All Flying Spur Hybrids will be built at Bentley’s home in Crewe – the world’s first carbon neutral factory for luxury car production.
The brand’s plug-in hybrid sedan is the next step in Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy to achieve a carbon-neutral organisation working towards full electrification.
Bentley is planning to hybridise its entire range by 2024 and introduce its first electric vehicle in late 2025.
