Audi is recalling over 300 examples of its e-tron GT electric vehicle (EV) as a battery issue could lead to a fire.

“Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may be defective,” the company says in its recall notice.

“A short circuit could cause a thermal overload and result in a vehicle fire over time.

“The potential defect can be determined with an initial check.

“A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property.”

    • A total of 369 vehicles are affected from 2020 to 2024
    • The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) list is attached here
    • The original recall notice is attached here

If you own an affected vehicle, you’ll need to make an appointment with an Audi dealership to have the battery inspected.

If the inspection doesn’t reveal any defects, no further action is necessary. However, if defects are revealed Audi will rectify these, free of charge.

In the meantime, Audi is urgently asking owners to limit charging of their e-tron GT’s battery to 80 per cent to minimise the potential fire risk.

If you have any further questions, you can contact Audi Australia on 1800 502 834.
