Are these our first details about the electric Kia Stinger?

Kia’s upcoming line-up of electric cars will be led by a Stinger successor with a world-beating range and supercar-worrying performance, according to new reports from Korea.

Korean Car Blogreports the next Stinger is known internally as the GT1, and will be the first Hyundai or Kia car built on a new electric car platform dubbed eM.

The report claims the dual-motor powertrain will pack 450kW (200kW front and 250kW rear motor), up from the 430kW you get in the Kia EV6 GT.

160kW and 320kW powertrains will also be offered, according to Korean Car Blog.

A massive 113.2kWh lithium-ion battery pack will feature on the eM platform, according to the report, for a potential range of up to 800km.

That would throw the Stinger (or GT1) into competition with the Mercedes-Benz EQS in the range stakes.

Along with the new Stinger, the Kia sedan range is forecast to grow with the addition of a sedan sized similarly to the Optima-replacing K5. Dubbed CT1 by Korean Car Blog, the new sedan is expected to be built on a more cost-effective platform.

It’s possible the CT1 will share its electric platform with the EV5 SUV.

It will be a lower-voltage (400V) platform, which suggests it won’t be able to hit the same charging speeds (350kW claimed, 230kW in the real world) as cars built on the 800V E-GMP platform.

IMA will offer the choice of lithium iron phosphate (LFP) and nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) batteries.

The EV5 is part of the 14-strong range of all-electric models Kia plans to launch globally before 2027. The new EV9 is joining the EV6 and Niro EV in Kia’s local EV line-up later this year.
