The Skoda Karoq SUV’s electric successor is due to be unveiled later this week, giving the Czech brand a smaller battery-powered model to join its growing range.
On March 15, Skoda will reveal what is believed to be the Elroq. It’s tipped to replace the combustion-powered Karoq, the brand’s mid-sized SUV that launched in 2017.
The Elroq was previewed last year as a featureless digital model – referred to as the Compact – alongside three other new electric Skoda models which are due to debut before 2026.
The design language of the Elroq is expected to adopt design elements from the Vision 7S concept from 2022, which showed a heavily revised cabin layout and smoother exterior styling compared to the Karoq.
Skoda has previously said the Elroq measures approximately 4.5 metres in length, about 120mm more than the Karoq and nearly identical to the Volkswagen Tiguan.
It’s not yet known what platform will underpin the Skoda Elroq, but expect it to offer smaller batteries than the larger Enyaq, which uses lithium-ion packs ranging from 52kWh to 77kWh.
Skoda also previewed an even smaller SUV in 2023, which was referred to as the ‘Small’, but is understood to be launching in 2025 as the brand’s smallest and most affordable electric vehicle.
The as-yet unnamed electric SUV is expected to measure about 4.1 metres long, and be similarly sized inside to the Scala.
The Skoda Elroq is expected to go on sale in Europe this year. It’s not yet known whether it is on the cards for Australia.
