Ram has teased its facelifted 1500 ahead of its imminent reveal.
The company has released a short teaser video, confirming the updated pickup truck will be unveiled on November 7 – which indicates a reveal as early as this afternoon in Australia.
Not much can be gleamed from the teaser, other than that the updated combustion-powered model looks set to adopt design elements from the previously revealed electric 1500 REV.
That includes LED daytime running lights that form two parallel lines, plus an illuminated badge up front.
The 1500 is expected to drop its venerable Hemi 5.7-litre petrol V8 in favour of the new Hurricane twin-turbo inline six.
In standard-output tune, this 3.0-litre produces 313kW of power and 635Nm of torque, while a high-output version pumps out 380kW and 677Nm. The engine, formally known as GME-T6, will also be available at some point with a plug-in hybrid system.
For reference, the current Hemi V8 pumps out 291kW and 556Nm, while the rival Ford F-150 – the first of the American pickups to adopt a twin-turbo six – produces 298kW and 678Nm from its EcoBoost 3.5-litre V6.
What appears to be an updated TRX has also been spied testing, and it’s also expected to pack a boosted six under its bonnet.
Ram 1500 REV
Car and Driver reports it could produce 410kW of power, quite a step down from the 523kW/882Nm supercharged 6.2-litre V8 of the outgoing TRX but a match for the twin-turbo V6 F-150 Raptor.
It’s unclear if the petrol-powered 1500 will follow the REV in featuring a Tungsten trim level, an even ritzier variant that slots in above the current Limited flagship.
In the 1500 REV, this features a white quilted leather interior with ventilated seats, dual-texture metal accents, and suede-wrapped headliner and pillars.
The REV was also revealed with a revised interior, featuring a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 14.5-inch portrait-oriented infotainment touchscreen, and a 10.25-inch passenger display.
The electric Ram will enter production in 2024 ahead of a US launch in the fourth quarter, and will be joined by what the company is referring to a Range Extender Paradigm Breaker. Expect that to entail a mix of a combustion engine and electric motor(s).
The 1500 REV has been confirmed for an Australian launch, though the company hasn’t announced launch timing.
The Ford F-150 Lightning rival features a dual-motor all-wheel drive powertrain with 488kW of power and 841Nm of torque, with a choice of 168kWh and 229kWh battery packs. These achieve claimed range of 560km and 805km, respectively.
Both the standard and long range variants of the 1500 REV support 800V DC fast charging up to 350kW.
The 1500 REV can pump power back into the grid, power a home in an emergency, or be used as a power source at a campsite, job location, or family picnic.
It comes equipped with a 7.2kW power panel in the cargo tray, and a 3.6kW in the 425L front trunk.
Ram has been slowly phasing out the old DS-series pickup in favour of the newer DT-series model, and in Australia there’s just one DS model left: the Express Crew Cab, which is now in run-out.
