Nissan has set a reveal date for the next-generation Patrol off-roader: Wednesday, September 4, 2024.
On its Middle East website, it has confirmed it will tease a different part of the new SUV every Thursday before revealing the vehicle in full.
The first teaser shows its grille, which drops the chunky chrome frame of the current model. There are still thin horizontal bars, however the lower section has a honeycomb-like texture.
Nissan recently teased the shadowy outline of two large SUVs, believed to be the next-generation Patrol and Armada.
In their current Y62 generation, these vehicles are essentially identical. The Armada is offered only in left-hand drive and, like the left-hand drive Patrol in the Middle East differs from our right-hand drive Patrol by having a completely different dashboard.
We would expect the next Patrol and Armada to once again have a shared interior design.
The new Patrol was recently spied testing in Australia, travelling in convoy with a current-generation model and a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series Sahara.
While it features largely the same silhouette as the recently revealed 2025 Infiniti QX80, it has unique styling front and rear.
Like the Infiniti, the new Patrol is expected to be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine, capable of producing 336kW of power and 698Nm of torque.
This would be a 38kW and 138Nm increase on the current Patrol’s naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8, and a 109kW gain but 2Nm drop on the 3.3-litre V6 turbo-diesel powering the LandCruiser 300 Series.
Nissan’s new engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission – rather than the existing seven-speed – and a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, at least overseas. It’s expected to remain four-wheel drive-only in Australia.
The ageing Nissan Patrol recorded slightly less than 4000 sales in Australia throughout the opening half of the year, however the LandCruiser wagon – which includes the 300 Series and the 70 Series wagon/Troop Carrier – has recorded more than double this figure.
Australia last saw a new Nissan Patrol in showrooms way back in 2013, three years after the Y62 launched overseas.
