The next-generation Nissan Patrol is coming into focus, with key specifications revealed of its more luxurious Infiniti QX80 sibling.
Overnight, Nissan’s luxury division Infiniti uploaded its latest teaser video for the new QX80 providing the first official details about what is under the large SUV’s skin before it’s officially uncovered on March 20 (US time).
The new twin-turbo V6 petrol engine QX80 – the capacity of which has yet to be disclosed – will produce 336kW of power and 698Nm of torque, and it’s expected to feature in the next Patrol/Armada.
That’s 38kW and 138Nm more than the current Patrol’s naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8. It’s also 109kW up but 2Nm down on the 3.3-litre V6 turbo-diesel powering the Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series.
A new nine-speed automatic transmission will be mated to the V6 engine – offering two more ratios than the outgoing model – while a four-wheel drive system will remain.
Infiniti claims the upcoming QX80 is underpinned by a new chassis that’s 57 per cent stiffer laterally and provides 20 per cent more torsional rigidity than the existing SUV.
Though not confirmed for the Nissan Patrol, the Infiniti QX80 will be available with electronic air suspension and dampers, but it’s not yet known whether this is standard equipment or only for flagship variants.
Inside, it appears the QX80 will benefit from a completely new interior, complete with a two-spoke steering wheel, and a single-panel digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen.
It’s unclear how closely this resembles the next Patrol/Armada interior.
While the QX80 departed Australian showrooms along with the Infiniti brand in 2019, the Patrol was Nissan’s third most-popular new car last year, with its 7812 sales sitting behind the smaller and more affordable X-Trail SUV(12,861 sales) and the Navara ute (8499 sales).
Despite being outsold by the Toyota LandCruiser wagon, official figures don’t separate the comfort-oriented 300 Series and the more rugged 70 Series, which combined for 15,035 sales in 2023.
