The new Nissan Patrol is only weeks away from a reveal, and the carmaker has continued its campaign of drip-feeding teasers to whet the appetite of its fans.
Ahead of the seventh-generation Patrol’s reveal on September 4, 2024, Nissan’s Middle East division has released another set of design teasers for the SUV, this time previewing its tail lights and full-width rear light signature.
Unlike the Infiniti QX80, the luxury twin to the Patrol, Nissan will go for vertical tail lights instead of horizontal units, while the light element stretching across the tailgate appears to feature less chrome with only a badge splitting the LED strip.
In a video uploaded to YouTube the senior vice president of Nissan global design, Alfonso Albaisa, said the new Patrol will be “bigger, bolder and more striking” than anything in the nameplate’s history.
This video comes after a set of teasers from earlier this month, which previewed the grille – dropping its chunky chrome frame of the current model in favour of a honeycomb-like design.
It’s expected both the new Patrol and its North American Armada twin will share their interior design, unlike current versions of the models which have seen right-hand drive examples such as those sold in Australia retain a decade-old cabin.
The new Patrol was recently spied testing in Australia, travelling in convoy with a current-generation model and a Toyota LandCruiser 300 Series Sahara.
Like the Infiniti, the new Patrol is expected to be powered by a 3.5-litre twin-turbo petrol V6 engine, capable of producing 336kW of power and 698Nm of torque.
This would be a 38kW and 138Nm increase on the current Patrol’s naturally aspirated 5.6-litre V8, and a 109kW gain but 2Nm drop on the 3.3-litre V6 turbo-diesel powering the LandCruiser 300 Series.
Nissan’s new engine will be mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission – rather than the existing seven-speed – and a choice of rear- or four-wheel drive, at least overseas.
It’s expected to remain four-wheel drive-only in Australia, as it has been almost exclusively for its entire run in local showrooms.
